The Philippines Feeding Program
Currently, there are millions of children who are poor and at risk of hunger all over the world. Every 40 seconds, a child is born into poverty in the United States alone. All over the world, children are sentenced to live on the streets.
You see the eyes of a child light up when you hand out a bowl of rice and pancit noodles. While such a simple thing, it’s satisfying for little ones that may not have eaten anything that day. As our Christian leaders are teaching Bible stories through illustrations, you see a smile break forth. When a new song is taught, you see hope in their eyes. God is moving in the hearts of these children. We need to keep reaching out to our VKI Kids Philippine Feeding Program.
Though at times we have limited finances to provide the nourishment that our children need on a daily basis, we cannot forget these children that God has asked us to care for, feed and clothe. Our pastor’s wife, Emelda, reports that, “Sometimes the kids are only fed through our program a couple times a month.” We feel that’s not enough! We do not want these beautiful children to go without food another day. We have so much and it takes so little to provide for the feeding program. Many of these children only eat chicken once a year, during Christmas time, or when feeding programs provide it. To Americans, the notion is unreal. It is hard to imagine that children will go without food tonight.
Today in the Philippine Islands, many children are struggling just to survive, eat and to find safe shelter. A child should never go without a home let alone food. We all know that. It’s a burden on all of our hearts; one that we do not like to think about. The mission to help in some way seems at times to be overwhelming. How can we make a difference to children in need? To help reach out to these broken and forgotten lives; we cannot do it by ourselves. The situation can seem hopeless at times, but when we all work together we can make a difference with God’s help, his mercy and grace.
You ask, “What can I do to help make a difference?” The answer is working together to help make a change. If we focus on helping one child at a time, we can and will make a difference in the lives of children who are need. Through your generous support and cooperation, we can get the job done. One prayer at a time, one step at a time, one gift at a time, we believe that with the help and support of Christians, churches, pastors, partners, family and friends we can make a difference in the lives of these amazing children.
Let us work together to feed not only the body but also the spirit. These children need food everyday, not just a couple times a month. We want these children to keep hearing stories about Jesus. What will you do today to keep faith, hope and love alive for our kids in the Philippines?
Our hearts’ desire is to make a difference. “Use us Lord, speak to us, to help children in a lost and dying world. God give us a burden for missions, to feed the hungry, to clothe the poor, to minister and reach out to help those in need. Keep these children safe and minister to these precious little children that need our compassion and love and message of God’s love.” Our prayer is to follow what Christ would have us do.
